NASS Announces Changes to Cash Rents Program

Issued October 2, 2014 by the Agricultural Statistics Board of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, National Agricultural Statistics Service. For more information, contact Troy Joshua at troy.joshua@nass.usda.gov or 202-720-6146.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) will not conduct the agricultural county-level cash rents survey in 2015. NASS will next publish agricultural county-level cash rents data in September 2016.

In 2016, NASS will reassess the program to see if any further changes will be necessary. NASS will publish state-level data in August 2015, as previously scheduled.

NASS collects agricultural county-level cash rents data as part of a cooperative agreement with USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA). FSA is a key user of NASS’ data and relies on this information to implement its Conservation Reserve Program. The Agricultural Act of 2014 does not require that the survey be conducted annually, as it was in the past.

Cash rents data for 2014 and prior years are available in NASS’ Quick Stats database at quickstats.nass.usda.gov.
